Getting Started

Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking tests in Blackboard. It prevents printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during a test. If a Blackboard test requires the LockDown browser be used, you will not be able to complete the test with a standard web browser.

Your test may also use Respondus Monitor which will require a camera and microphone on your device.

See the Related Article at the right side of the screen for Download Instructions and Links.  These will vary for different types of devices and for devices issues by the college or High School.

Please see the Blackboard Basics for SJC Students site in Blackboard to learn more about Using Respondus Lockdown Browser

Additional Information / Contact Information

There are different versions of Respondus Lockdown Browser for different schools and eBook publishers.  For a test taken inside of Blackboard you must use the SJC Lockdown Browser.  If the link in your Blackboard course takes you to a publisher site such as Pearson or McGraw-Hill's ALEKS, then you must use the publisher's version of the Lockdown Browser.

If you already have a Lockdown Browser from a different school installed on your device you will need to uninstall it or use a different device.  Publisher Lockdown Browsers should not have a conflict.
